Dec 16 - Sunday

Jason gained 1 oz, so he is now 5lb 2.2oz! (birth weight of 5lb 3.8oz). And he grew to 18 in (was 17.7 in per NICU record). His bilirubin was down to 10.4 (had been 14.5 two days ago). He continued to regulate his temperature so he had his circumcision this morning and tolerated it well! He came back in a small bed!

He was sleepy for his 9am feeding but by noon, he was awake and had a good feeding.

The MD said Jason was ok ready to go home and discharge orders were placed!

We were thrilled to hear we could take our son home! We packed our bags and got ready to leave. We're thankful to have been able to "room in" across the hall from him during his NICU stay.

The nurse went over discharge instructions with us which included some new information. The MD prescribed that Jason have two supplemental feedings of formula a day, to be given by bottle or syringe feedings. Because I've breast feed only, I didn't want to give him a bottle so we stayed for the 3 pm feeding so we could make sure we knew how to syringe feed. It went well, just frustrating to not find out till the last minute and to learn something new. But Jason had no trouble so we'll be ok.
We got him dressed! First layer...

And second layer...

We were ready to go!

  2. I second everything Molly said! Someday, in the future, your NICU days will blur together, and I bet you'll be happy you've kept this blog as a family journal. So proud of you Lindsey, and your husband. Already AMAZING parents.
