Night of Jason's birthday

The nurses had been monitoring Jason's blood sugars because they were a little low, I nursed Jason again. The nurse checked his blood sugar again and said it was still too low (23) and that Jason needed to go to the NICU. So family left and we went down with Jason about 8pm. The nurse said he needed and IV for D10 (sugar water). After 4 unsuccessful IV attempts in his hands, they placed a central line through his umbilical cord (UVC). They started the fluids, told us he was NPO (nothing by mouth) and required to be in an isolette to regulate his temperature. We made sure Jason was settled, then went to our room and I started pumping on schedule, every 3 hrs. Leaving him was hard but we knew he needed to be in the NICU and that he was getting the best care.
